You will be a member of the dental team, working closely with a dentist. You will specialize in the prevention of oral cavity diseases, providing educational, preventive and therapeutic services to enhance overall health in the context of oral health care with dental hygiene in focus. Being a dental hygienist is a highly demanded profession, and so worries about finding a job won’t be your case.
Educational methods correspond with Act. No. 201/2017 Col., on paramedical professions, as amended and enable students acquire relevant professional competencies that are necessary for practising the profession of a dental hygienist.
The teaching language is Czech.
Lessons take place at the Merhautova school. The three-year study programme can be organised either as full or part-time. The school year is divided into two terms – winter and summer with an exam period at the end of each of them. Theoretical lessons take place at school and include lessons according to the curriculum, self-study and preparation for exams. Practical lessons take place in the schools dental offices and during coherent practices in real dental offices.
A detailed overview of the part-time version will be published in May of the preceding school year, so that applicants are able to consider their time possibilities.
The dental hygienist study programme is focused on the active student`s use of information, its analysis, evaluation and creating individual papers and projects in the field of dental hygiene.
Specialised subjects are taught by experienced dentists and dental hygienists, often enriched by cooperation with other dental specialists and enable students to follow modern trends and the latest developments in stomatology.
A dental hygienist is an important part of the dental team who cooperates with the dentist and specialises in the prevention of diseases of the oral cavity. Your main duty will be providing educational, preventive and therapeutic services to patients of all ages to maintain their oral health. You will teach them appropriate home care, demonstrate proper cleaning methods, help in choosing the right dental tools and also educate them about suitable nutrition. Moreover, you will be specialised in the latest dental hygiene procedures and will also improve your foreign language skills since non-Czech-speaking patients are no exception in dental hygiene practices. Being a dental hygienist requires continuous learning in a fast developing field and responsibility for resulting care. Since demand for dental hygiene services is increasing, there are very good chances of finding a job as a dental hygienist.
