Certified Laboratory Technician

Description of Education

A three-year tertiary professional education is concluded with the final professional examination (absolutorium). The graduate meets professional competence requirements in accordance with Act No 96/2004 Coll. on non-medical health professions. His or her job is focused on diagnostic laboratory work. Since being fully qualified, there is no need for further supervision and he or she can perform acquired skills independently both in clinical and non-clinical laboratories.
The teaching language is Czech.

Organisation of Education

It is a three-year programme. Tuition takes place on the school premises in Lipová Street. The school year is divided into 2 terms – winter and summer terms. Each term is concluded with the exam period. Theoretical tuition takes place at school and includes not only lesson plans according to the curriculum, but also self-study exam preparation.

Practical training is organised both in school and hospital laboratories. It aims at acquiring skills and knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and sample preparation techniques. Practical training is an every year integral part of the curriculum.

Graduate Profile

The laboratory technician performs activities in accordance with Decree No 55/2011 Coll. as amended.

• provides health care according to legislation and standards
• ensures compliance with the hygienic-epidemiological regime in accordance with public health legislation
• keeps medical records and works with the information system of the medical facility
• identifies samples of biological material, evaluates their quality for the required laboratory tests
• operates laboratory equipment and ensures its routine maintenance
• prepares materials necessary for laboratory and diagnostic activities
• ensures proper storage of laboratory chemicals and diagnostic kits and checks their shelf life
• performs sampling in connection with public health protection
• provides care for laboratory animals
• receives, checks, stores medicinal products, handles them and ensures their sufficient supply
• receives, checks and stores medical devices and linen, handles with them and ensures their disinfection and their sufficient supply
