Certified Optician

Description of Education

A three-year tertiary professional education ends with a final professional examination - absolutorium. The educational programme of Certified Optician prepares students for the profession of an optician that closely cooperates with an optometrist, orthokeratologist and ophthalmologist in terms of ensuring correction of refractive errors of the eye. To be able to carry out this occupation they are equipped with knowledge and skills in fields of communication, language and economy as well as with optical-physical and mechanical-technical insights. After successfully passing the absolutorium, a graduate of the certified optician programme is able to perform all the professional tasks in optical shops in terms of manufacturing, repairing and adjusting spectacles and other correction and therapeutic visual aids.
The teaching language is Czech.

Organisation of Education

The educational programme is a three-year day form of education, taking place at Merhautova School. The school year is divided into two terms – winter and summer, each ending in an exam period.

Theoretical preparation takes place in the school, consisting of the subjects within the course, self-study and preparation for the examinations.

Practical preparation is organised in a form of practical education in the school and at specialised workplaces as practical training.

Tuition fees per year are CZK 3 000. The fees are to be paid in two instalments.

Graduate Profile

The education programme provides knowledge and skills that enable the graduates to perform the following tasks:

• manufacturing, repairing and adjusting visual aids
• advisory while serving a client at an optical shop
• processing the retail paperwork, including electronic documentation of an optical shop
• managerial processes of an optical shop
• a graduate is an autonomous worker who can hold a post of an optical shop manager
• a graduate can set up their own business in trade of an optician based on the Trade Certificate
